Access the Create menu in Sibelius 7 or later

Tips

Sibelius 7 — with its Ribbon interface — has been with us for more than two years. If you’re one of those Sibelius 6 (or earlier) holdouts still kicking and screaming your way through Sibelius 7, here’s a little tip to ease the transition: You can still access the old, familiar Create menu in Sibelius 7.

With nothing selected in your score, simply right-click or type Shift+F10 on PC, or Control-click (or right-click with a pointing device that supports it) on Mac, and your friendly Create menu, with all of its sub-menus, will be there for you, looking the same as it did in Sibelius 6.

Of course, the Ribbon offers many more options, so why not have a look and see what you can do with it. The Create menu will patiently be a right-click away if you need it.

After you click SH-F10 to get the old Create Menu, what do you click to get back to the Ribbon menu

Simply pressing Esc should dismiss the contextual Create menu in Sibelius 7.

This doesn’t work for me. When trying this, the menu menu is opened only.

In a score of 150+ bars, I need to add a 10-bar stave alternative between bars 104-114 only; how do I do this? I have Sibelius 7.1.3.

Like Office 2010 was a huge improvement on the ribbon in Office 2007, I’m waiting to see what Sibelius 8 brings

HATE PASSIONATELY the upgrade to 7 even after becoming familiar with the new “improved” features. It’s not a matter of being a ‘Holdout’ (as you so arrogantly mock the apparent collective voice of your customers) It’s simply that you’ve made our work harder to complete.

      Hi Malcolm,

I meant the post to be helpful to our mutual community and I intended my tone to be playful. I sincerely apologize if you found it arrogant, as it was not my intention.

As stated on many places on this blog, I am an independent user just like you, and am not employed by Avid in any way. If you have feedback for them they seem to be soliciting feature requests at http://sibelius.ideascale.com/, so you could certainly try submitting something there.

All good brother. Thought you were an avid guy!! lol. I write a lot of sheet music (as I’m doing right now) & it’s become quite unenjoyable since the release of 7.

I’m doing something wrong. Using v7.1.3 on an iMac using Mavericks. What do I right-click on? Nothing changes. I hate the v7 interface and I’d love to go back to v6. Thanks, ch

With nothing selected in your score (press Esc a couple times just to be sure), simply right-click in any blank area (not where there is music or other objects). The interface won’t change, but you will see the Create menu as illustrated in the post.

Thank you for giving me the “Create” menu back! I was forced into upgrading to sib 7 because if needing a new computer, thus Mavericks. And yes, I hate it…all those icons to dig through to find the things I used to access so easily. Anyway, this tip will help a lot.
