This past weekend, Philip Rothman held two Sibelius training sessions in New York City. I got in touch with Philip to ask him how the sessions had gone.
“It was a great day!” he said. “About half of the participants brought laptops to follow along with the exercises. The others followed along with handouts I provided, excerpted from the Handbook and Reference. I used the first two projects from the Handbook and then supplemented those with my own materials.”
The value of training in sophisticated software like Sibelius is huge: you can be working with the software for quite a while and never realise that there’s a better way of doing things than the way you stumbled upon when you first started learning. Philip agrees: “One person said that she had inputted an entire orchestral score by clicking with the mouse – so my demo of step-time entry was alone worth it for her!”
Philip hopes to run some further training sessions next year, so keep your eyes on the NYC Music Services web site for more information.
