Registration is now open for two online Sibelius courses in 2013 headed by Katie Wardrobe of Midnight Music. The two courses are, appropriately enough, Basics and Advanced. Each course runs for four successive Tuesdays for 75 minutes each (the Basics course is in February, and the Advanced course is in March).
No previous Sibelius experience is required for the Basics course. Its topics include:
- How to set up a score
- Inputting notes in multiple ways
- How to select music quickly
- Best ways to copy and paste
- Score-sharing techniques
- Lots of other time-saving tips
The Advanced course is designed for those who are comfortable with Sibelius basics and who know a minimum of 2 note-entry methods. Its topics include:
- Best ways to layout and format your score
- House styles
- How to create your own manuscript templates
- Tips for working with instrumental parts
- Drum notation from scratch
- Playback tricks
- Setting up your own shortcuts
- Time-saving plugins
Each course costs $200 (AUD). These live, online courses are open to anyone worldwide, and while the starting time of 8:00 pm Australian Eastern Daylight Time is best suited to those in the Eastern Hemisphere, late-night owls (or early risers) in the West are welcome too!
A third course, designed for teachers creating projects for their students, has been announced, but no dates have been scheduled yet.
If you aren’t already familiar with Katie through her tutorial videos, she is an excellent instructor who has delivered in excess of 100 presentations at more than 20 different conferences and events, and she has trained hundreds of teachers throughout schools all over Australia. To pique your interest further, she has generously offered three of her free guides for download:
