Here at NYC Music Services we’ve made a few updates behind the scenes to Notation Express, the line of profiles for the Stream Deck consoles and mobile app that make powerful Sibelius Ultimate and Dorico Pro features easy and fun to use.
Headlining today’s updates is a new version of the Notation Express Stream Deck plugin for Sibelius Ultimate, and a new folder of gradual tempo changes for Dorico.
Plugin update for Sibelius Ultimate 2024.10 (and Dorico)
As of the release of Sibelius Ultimate 2024.10 on October 24, 2024, the experience of connecting the Stream Deck (or the Stream Deck Mobile app) to Sibelius is improved. Although the popup from Sibelius asking the user to authorize the connection between Stream Deck and Sibelius will still appear at the start of every new Sibelius session (when Sibelius is launched), it will no longer reappear after the computer sleeps, or when Stream Deck is disconnected and reconnected. You may still get multiple popup messages if you have more than one Stream Deck connected to your computer.
You will need the latest version of our Notation Express for Sibelius.streamDeckPlugin AND Sibelius Ultimate 2024.10 to benefit from this improvement. If you are using Sibelius Ultimate 2024.3 or 2024.6, do not update the Notation Express Stream Deck plugin.
Although there are no functional changes on the Dorico side, we’ve updated that plugin as well, so that the new Notation Express Stream Deck plugins follow Elgato’s guidelines for icon design and categorization. Instead of placing the plugin in a Custom category, you will see the plugin Sibelius Action or Dorico Action (or both, if you use both Sibelius and Dorico) in a new Notation Express category.
These changes apply to all of the Notation Express products: Notation Express Classic, Notation Express XL, and Notation Express Keypad. You only need to install the updated plugin once. The documentation has been updated as well.
Other updates for Sibelius
There are a handful of minor updates on the Sibelius side of Notation Express Classic and Notation Express XL.
Latest Sibelius plugins included
These Sibelius plugins, courtesy of Bob Zawalich, and included with Notation Express Classic and Notation Express XL, will be updated if you run the installer:
- cmdutils
- Bracket Notes
- Execute Commands
- Filter Other
- Filter With Deselect
Tremolo fixes
On the Notation Express Classic and Notation Express XL profiles, the “4 slashes” tremolo button now correctly returns a 4-slash tremolo instead of one with 5 slashes. On the XL profile, there is a new “5 slashes” tremolo button. This is the only change to the profile from the previous version, so, if you’ve customized your profile, you may wish to load the new profile, and then copy and paste this one button to your custom profile.
Other updates for Dorico
Both the Notation Express Classic and Notation Express XL profiles for Dorico gain a new subfolder: Gradual tempo changes. In Notation Express Classic it’s found within Tempo and System Text, while in Notation Express XL it’s within Text.
Here you’ll find buttons to apply the following gradual tempo changes:
- accel., poco accel., molto accel.
- allarg., poco allarg., molto allarg.
- rall., poco rall., molto rall.
- rit., poco rit., molto rit.
- sost.
- string.
This is the only change to the profile from the previous version, so, if you’ve customized your profile, and would like to make use of this folder, you may wish to load the new profile, and then copy and paste this folder to your custom profile:

You can obtain these updates by logging into your Notation Central account and downloading the latest versions from the Downloads area. They are free for existing users.
