The nominations for the 2010 Latin Grammy Awards were announced yesterday, and among the nominations for Best Classical Album is the first album of chamber music from Cuban American composer, Yalil Guerra, entitled Old Havana. Yalil has been featured on the blog before, so I got in touch with him to ask him about the album.

“I just heard the news of my nomination for the Latin Grammys, and needless to say, this is great news for me! I am very thankful to the Recording Academy, and to all whom participated in the production of this recording,” he said.

Yalil told me that Old Havana was composed and scored entirely within Sibelius. “Sibelius has been my secret weapon in music composition,” he said. “The new features of version 6 save a lot of time during the preparation of parts and making corrections to the score. The playback helped a lot too: the sound quality of the instruments is very realistic, and creates a perfect companion during my creative process!”

You can buy Old Havana from CD Baby or from iTunes. The Latin Grammy Awards winners will be announced in Las Vegas on 11 November, and we’ll be keeping everything crossed for Yalil. Good luck!
